The official UEFA Euro 2008 game

Some say that the developers created UEFA Euro 2008 by tweaking a version of FIFA 08 for the 2008 European Soccer Championships, but that is unfair. You can remove the shell of a Ford car, and place over it the shell of a Lamborghini. It would look like a Lamborghini, and a Ford car has similar features such as four wheels and such, but it still doesn’t make the car a Lamborghini.

FIFA 08 Is Not A Ford Car

Despite the previous metaphorical example, the FIFA 08 game was a triumph, to the point where comparing it to a Ford car is an insult, but on the same hand, it is unfair to say that UEFA Euro 2008 was something they tagged on to FIFA 08.

The reason that UEFA Euro 2008 feels so much like FIFA 08 is because they took a lot from FIFA 08. They created a great game in FIFA 08, so it is only fair that similar games are derivatives in order to recreate the same success. The game has official stadiums, real kits, balls, real players, and even haircuts. UEFA Euro 2008 has 52 European teams.

Why Do Some People Hate It

The main reason is because it is so similar to FIFA 08. It was released just a few months after it, and the people that bought it after buying FIFA 08 were disappointed because the game feels like a rehash to them, when they were hoping it would be more of an expansion.

Different Elements That Are Not In FIFA 08

In UEFA Euro 2008, they have in-game player ratings that update in real-time dependent upon how each individual player is performing. There are improved collisions and trapping, plus the goalkeeper AI is improved. You also get to see managers' reactions things such as near-misses, free kicks and goals. UEFA Euro 2008 also has a few new game modes such as “Captain Your Country” where you are the team's skipper, which means you can influence other players whilst on the pitch. You can also play as part of the new online mode named “Battle of the Nations.”

Pros

  • Still a great footie game
  • Experience the EURO side of soccer
  • Is as good as FIFA 08
  • Has extras that FIFA 08 doesn’t

Cons

  • It is unfair releasing two very similar games in the same year
  • Not worth getting if you already have FIFA 08
  • People were expecting more from this game
